Tinder scraps 'Tinderverse' funding. How long before we date in the metaverse?

Dating app Tinder has slashed its funding for web3/metaverse related research and development. Match group, the owner company of the Tinder app announced that it is scaling back its metaverse investments and discarding plans to launch in-app digital currency called Tinder coins due to poor financial results. This move has been taken amid the resignation of Tinder’s CEO Renate Nyborg. Tinder had earlier announced plans to build a ‘Tinderverse’ to provide the opportunity for its users to date in the metaverse.

Emergence and adoption of metaverse will have direct implications of dating/ matchmaking industry. The industry is predominantly based on connecting users virtually. As there is a shift in user behaviour and the concept of metaverse and augmented reality gains greater acceptance the match making technology in its current form will become obsolete.

However, it looks there is some time before Tinder allows us to date in the metaverse so we have to depend our good old coffee shops for the time. Anyone up for a coffee?
